May 31, 2013 | Lark Creek Grill

Wake up in the early morning sure is not fun; catching morning flight is a tragedy. However, I got around to sat down and had a plate of expensive BUT mediocre breakfast. I mean, you wouldn't really expect anything in the airport to be a Michelin 3 stars, but still.

Anyways, I sat there for a good amount of time, enjoyed my breakfast at a table for one, and wondered where other travelers are heading to. That is just my favorite thing to do.

May 28, 2013 | Sheng Kee Bakery

Had a BBQ welcome dinner at home with new roommate and some friends. Roommate brought desserts from this Chinese Bakery with lots and lots of beautiful icing and decos. BBQ was delicious, desserts were yummy, and sake was working. We gathered and talked about random stuff; life, movies, food...bits and bots. We were happy, that is one thing for sure not random at all.

Cheers.

May 26, 2013 | Homemade: Korean BBQ

Home cooked Korean BBQ is the best. Actually, any kind of homemade food is good. We went to Korean Supermarket to buy all the ingredients we need to prepare a table of goodness. Apparently, we are becoming domestic.

To be honest, I am not trying to master any type of cooking skills. I just feel like being responsible to myself by cooking. The processes of  preparing to cook and more importantly, to clean, teach me the lesson to be more responsible. Cooking at home is not just about having a feast and getting services from your parents like we used to be; when you live by yourself, you have to do it. And through these steps you realize how lucky and spoiled you were.

Doesn't make sense to you? It's all good.

May 25, 2013 | Samovar Tea Lounge

I had a hard time categorizing this place. But fusion is fusion, it still has it's origins to follow and to re-create. Samovar is definitely a successful fusion of Asian Tea that attracts majority Westerners to visit and enjoy the sunshine on the terrace like today.

I ordered the Tea Soup with Smoked Duck. It is interesting. The traditional Tea Soup Bowl is usually very self explanatory: a bowl of (white) rice with tea as soup. But here, they add flavors into it. Furthermore, they make it substantial. I guess it's just like the American culture; just like San Francisco.

Some places you went with someone, and you'll never go back by yourself or anyone else. It's called memory locked down, in other term, secret places. It doesn't matter if the food or drinks is good or not, it's a place you hung out.

Up until now, I haven't went back to this place yet.

May 22, 2013 | Homemade: Chicken Donburi

A continuous of homemade food, today me and my roommate made Chicken Donburi for dinner. I've been having this too many times that I have nothing special to tell. But one thing I wanna mention is, when life gives you shit, deal with it. K, bye.

May 21, 2013 | Homemade: Chicken & Black Mushroom Stock

Being aboard makes you handy. I was never interested in cooking when I was at home, simply because the eating culture in Asia is way too convenient. I was very spoiled by the diversity and accessablility. However, ever since I moved here to the State, I somehow started liking to cook. To make my won food makes me content. Of course, the most important is, I can satisfy my crave of home food.

I like soups---all kinds. Living in San Francisco is a great privilege because it is not a food desert. I get all I want most of the time. But when it comes to real Chinese/Taiwanese food, it becomes a shame. Therefore, I present you my first attempt of making this household Chicken and Black mushroom Stock. Sure it's a yummer.

The Grove

First time trying The Grove with my besties turned out to be a great disappointment. Not that the food was bad--- actually, it was tasty--- but the fact that we encountered a very unpleasant person next table. She was making statement by asking her friend why "Asians" always take photos of our food before we eat it? "Just for a plate of food?" ---that's a quote straight from her mouth. That's racist. And She IS an Asian, FYI.

Of course we were pissed off. We starting to take more photos for the sake of showing her the action. And then, like we always do, we started to have a logical discussion over this matter. But I was really upset about how disgusting people can be when they are being self-conscious. It's ok to disagree with what we do, but you don't have to put other people down in order to show you're special or higher than everybody else.

Enough rant, I just wanted to say, I appreciate every meal I have. It is not merely a meal, it documents who I'm with and what happened. It's the same reason of sightseeing photos, and has deeper meaning  than your selfies on your iPhone.

SFMoMA Blue Bottle Cafe

Frankly speaking, I don't consider myself an artiest creating art, 'cause everyone could be. I don't think doing art needs to be mention about, because art is in you. It is natural, art is everywhere. Cheesy, I know.

Being a student from an Art School, I appreciate every single chances to go on locations. Besides the fact that I can shoot or see more, the main reason being, I can be exposed and immersed more. With or without my camera, it is aways a great chance forcing myself to be with "Art". Just to go out and see the world, is a practice of Art.

May 17, 2013 | Cup-A-Joe

Another gathering place for students around Sutter. You'll probably meet some of your friends every time you pass by here. The last day of Fashion and Beauty class ended a little bit rush and awkward; things happened as expected/unexpected at the same time, and a lot of times you choose not to care anymore. Today is the perfect day of doing it. So, there's no reason needed to order a lemon tart. Maybe two.

May 18, 2013 | Big Lantern

I wouldn't typically say a lot of Asian food here in the State are true to how it is in Asia, but when in Rome, do as the Romans do. I say the Dim Sum from The Big Lantern is the only place I would go for when craving some Americanized ones. Of course this is not at the same level of the real "Cantonese Yum Cha", but it is good enough to comfort the stomaches of Asian heritage.

Ps, this is a instant version of my very own White on White Food Photography series ;)

May 17, 2014 | New Korea House

We were cleaning the house and I was craving something; something that I haven't had for a while and can totally fill me with quality and quantity. Of course it has to be korean BBQ. Having a extremely picky tongue makes me a harsh critic, especially at the types of food that I am familiar with. Korean food is getting prevalent everywhere. Luckily, here in San Francisco, I have plenty options to choose from and be upset at it.

There are many motifs to judge a restaurant, food, service, space, atmosphere...etc. But the most importantly, the maintenance of all above. I can go on and on about it but here I'll spare you. Suffice to say, New Korean House has been on its game since the first time I visited, which was two years ago. Appetizers are still full on, meats are still fresh, and my cook is still skillful. :)

May 17, 2013 | Sutter pub

Grabbing a meal together before classes is becoming a tradition of me and Paige. For her last day of class we managed sometime for a quick meal. Usually it happens like this: if you're students around the hood, you go to places that's not great, but it's a place to buy food. And that's it. Sutter pub is one of those gathering spots for us. Also, fish and chips or chicken stripes are something you'd just go for without thinking too much. One side note, I like the serving paper underneath. It just makes the food looked ten times yummier.

May 16, 2013 | Patxi's Pizza

I was never a fan of deep dish pizza. I had a bad experience when I was in Chicago; having the greasy food as the first meal of the day, even though it was lunch time, still wasn't a very good idea. But today, in honor of the school peace out, we ordered the famous Chicago style in San Francisco, and I decided to give it another try. And no, it wasn't good. It's great.

I am always a royal thin crust lover, and am always on the hunt of the thinnest. The thick crust from Patxi's is absolutely a hands down, delicious piece of fine crust. It's not oily as thick crust would usually be yet not dry at all. And the flavors we have today are Spinich pesto and BBQ chicken. I am not a spicy girl, so i can't give critics on the BBQ chicken with jelapeño. However, as a pizza digger, I gave it a go and it was decent amount of spiciness which a non-spicy person can easily take. To sum up, dear deep dishes, you are now winning my heart back.

Special shout out to our friend Kaley. Thank you for introducing us this place. :)

May 15, 2013 | Chipotle

It is a tradition of  Me, Kay, and Estelle that every semester, Beginning and end, we have to eat chipotle. It's a hello and goodbye(for now) meal because the first day we met, we had Chipotle. That is when we started our friendships. It was definitely a important memory of us three.

Today is the last day of this killer semester. It feels like we just started school complaining about how difficult the assignments are, and now it's already over. Everything is the same as the first day. We had Chipotle as usual, we hugged and said goodbye as usual. Well, correction has to be made---we said "see you soon" as usual. Happy summer vacation, and I'll see you soon. :)

May 15, 2013 | Pesche

It means peaches in Italian.

These lovely guests that showed up at the last day of printing class. It was always emotional at the end of every semester. But these cute little macaron-like finger foods made by Marcello indeed surprised everybody and won some gasps. They are no doubt some cuties by the size, and the red liquor called alchermes from Italy adds the absolute attractions to it. I am gladly to say it's at the perfect level of sweetness even with a layer of guilty-pleasure named netella.  Thank you Marcello for the heart-warming gift.

Special thanks to Marcello for the knowledge and terms to complete this post. :)
